Adeladius Makwega – Musoma, MARA, TANZANIA.
The football team from the Office of the Regional Administrative Secretary of Mara, popularly known as RAS MARA, has won the championship of the TRA 30-year anniversary tournament in Mara Region after defeating the Musoma Municipal team mercilessly with a 3–0 victory.
The final match, played on June 27, 2026, in Musoma District, started with quick touches and short passes, and by the end of the first half, the score remained 0–0. After the break, seven minutes later, the Ras Mara players came out strong and scored their first goal, netted by their skilled player, Omari Omari.
Ras Mara’s star continued to shine and, just three minutes later, their talented player Samson David scored the second goal, leaving the Musoma Municipal players confused and stunned—like someone unable to speak after being thrown into the middle of Lake Victoria.
The attacks were very intense and, two minutes before the final whistle, Omari Omari scored again, netting Ras Mara’s third goal. The game resumed quickly, with long balls played for about one and a half minutes as Musoma Municipal struggled desperately, exhausted and gasping, narrowly escaping a fourth goal. Ras Mara pushed hard, seeking another goal by all means so that every Musoma Municipal player could share the pain of defeat, but the referee’s whistle showed mercy to Musoma Municipal, ending the match with Ras Mara winning 3–0, while Musoma Municipal got nothing.
In addition, in the netball match, Musoma Municipal emerged as champions, with Ras Mara Queens from Mukendo Hill finishing second.
The games also included activities such as chicken chasing and catching. Ras Mara player Gideon Chilongani almost caught a chicken but made a sudden misstep and fell down. First aid personnel rushed to him and carried him off the field for treatment. Meanwhile, the chicken dodged him cleverly and escaped, and the winner of the chicken-catching competition was determined after three attempts.
In the 100-meter athletics competition, Ras Mara’s talented athlete Gladness Shayo finished in third place, running below her usual standard due to poor field conditions and heavy dust.
Speaking on the sidelines of the competitions, Ras Mara team leader Hashimu Ujonjo said this is a good start, noting that their teams achieved an overall success rate of 77%, with 65% of the players fielded coming from second squads, as the main squads are currently in camp preparing for other national competitions.
“For now, we are using second teams to filter and identify the best players for the main squads, whether in football, netball, athletics, sack racing, chicken chasing, tug of war, and other sports.”
Speaking at the TRA 30-year anniversary event, Musoma District Commissioner Hon. Juma Chikoka congratulated Ras Mara for their strong performance and encouraged other teams to improve. He also emphasized the importance of peace for every resident of Musoma.
“Without peace, we cannot achieve any development. I urge everyone to remain calm so that each person can fulfill their responsibilities and ultimately earn a living.”
On his part, the TRA Mara Regional Manager, Mr. Masawa Masatu, used the opportunity to introduce himself to the people of Mara, saying he is new in the region and asking for a warm welcome.
“I kindly urge you to pay taxes, as they are what fund various development projects.”
As these events were taking place in Musoma, the weather in the town was 28°C, with a 46% chance of rain and winds blowing at 19 km/h.
